It was an honor to host the 51st Annual Epicomm-SW Conference from The Woodlands Conference Center and Resort located just North of Houston Texas.
Mailers, printers, fulfillment houses and marketers from across the country discussed the latest hot topics within our industry. Dr. Jerry Waite and Phil Snyder of the University of Houston shared the future of digital media and transmedia marketing, while Darrell Probst (WatchGuard) gave us details on cyber security. Ken Garner, President of Epicomm, discussed the challenges and solutions that face the small to medium sized multi-channel marketing companies of today and Leo Raymond brought us up to date on all things postal.
The Friday evening kick-off party was "standing room only", while attendees mingled and learned about the newest available equipment, software and provider services to our industry. The evening wrapped up with the presentation of The Helsley Family Award for lifetime achievement. This award is considered to be “The Oscars” of our association and can only be won once. Congratulations to Jack Gressett of Admail for winning the coveted award.
Saturday night’s chili cook-off was a smashing success! Seven teams competed for the winning trophy. Judged by chefs of The Woodlands Conference Center and Resort, competition was tough. Chef Leo Raymond of Epicomm led the winning team which included Steve Hertz (Snailworks), Linda Jarvis (Stewart Organization), Jim Kelley (HP), Max & Sharon Noble (Premier IMS), and Ron Royall (BEB-Business Extension Bureau).
The 43rd Chance-Saling Award was presented to the Dallas Postal Customer Council for best self-marketing piece for a second year in a row, and a new competition was introduced this year. 6-Word Stories, Dramas in One Breath. Inspired by Hemingway’s famous six-word tale, “For Sale: baby shoes, never worn.” The six-word story has served as a challenge for decades, testing writers’ ability to create their own succinct masterpieces.
